herniated cervical disc

Herniated disc, commonly called a “ruptured disc”, is a commonly treated spinal anomaly with over 300,000 lumbar and 180,000 cervical disectomies performed in the United States annually.  Although  herniated cervical disc may occur with any disc, the most frequent sites are in those segments with the greatest range of motion.  In the cervical spine, C5-C6, C6-C7 and C4-C5 are the ones that most often herniated.  In the lumbar region, L4-L5, L-5-S1 and L3-L4 are commonly involved.
